When my wife Doria Roberts told me that the president of One Georgia Bank asked her if I could cater his Thanksgiving party we decided I should do traditional southern soul food. After brainstorming together over a menu I got in the kitchen and made, with a little fear in my own soul, the first collards I had ever made. We invited Chuck and his colleges in for a test run and to my relief as well as Doria’s (she joked with the table that she had been nervous all week, if my collards were bad we were over)my soul food sides were a hit. After Chuck and his group left She and I sat at the table discussing the evening and Soul Food Fridays was born. We talked about the economy, food cost, how difficult it is for the consumer and the business these days, how every aspect of business has been impacted so drastically this past year. We decided that people needed a night out with good, fresh and affordable comfort food, and entertainment that would usually cost fifteen to twenty dollars a ticket that my wife graciously and selflessly offered to provide and host free of charge in order to try and save my restaurant. She put her own career aside and I changed my menu to better serve the community in this economy. Unfortunately, although it has met with great success, we can not afford to stay open long enough to fully implement the change .Calavino’s will be closing Dec 21st if we do not raise the capitol necessary to stay open.

Happy Late Birthday Mojo!!!!lol

Did you put tryptophan in the panini? I'm sooooo sleepy and can't stop yawning.
I'm happy to see you know Calavino. We used to live near her, but I haven't seen her since she openned up the new restaurant.
Nah. I just get crushes on them on occasion. Fun to look. Too smelly to get too close.
Its best not to get me started yapping (too late for you) - I'm quiet, but when you get me going I'll talk your ear off.

Nice to hear from you, ladies! Hope all is well. I'll be in Kirkwood soon. Come over to the Roastery and cup with us when you can.
Take care,
