Many of you might remember Cipha-born. Right? You might have heard me Free styling or being interviewed on Philadelphia’s own Power 99 and 100.3 the beat. You’ve even seen my group "APHILLYATION" perform, copped our mix tapes, and purchased our cd's. Well these are some of the details of my journey, and success. “APHILLYATION” has sold records, and rocked venues. We’ve been featured on radio stations all throughout the tri state borough, east coast, and west coast regions of the U.S. APHILLYATION “tore” the college circuit up in 1996 threw 1999. We put out singles that were independently distributed world wide through “ECHO INTERNATIONAL”, Who is now Famous Records, Corp. “APHILLYATION” was just getting off the ground when we released two major singles with “ECHO INTERNATIONAL”; the first of the two was UNITED SNAKES OF AMERICA (U.S.A), B.side HAD R.E.M, and PUPPET MASTERS which featured Dice Raw Of The legendary “ROOTS CREW”. This single hit the stores and airwaves internationally and took off. Within six months we’d sold 15,000 units world wide! I think that's pretty good for an underground group and independent label. In the Early 90’s even before APHILLYATION was born, CIPHA-BORN and ROKSTARR formed a group called "MERDAH". In 1993 “MERDAH” signed with “IQ RECORDS” and released two other singles, one was entitled SKUNK FUNK, B.side -School Boy Crush. This single was in heavy rotation, it reached “make it or break it” on “power 99”, as well as “battle of the beats” which ran for two weeks straight! It was wild, the city was calling up and requesting the record! We interviewed on “urban expressions”, and were featured on the cover of the “street buzz” magazine. This was BIG!!!. Near the end of 94 going into 95 “MERDAH” released there second single entitled HYPNOTIC, B Side entitled PHILADELPHIA. Once again, we had full support from the tri state borough and radio backed us, all of the dj's played the record in clubs, they loved the single, and it did very good internationally. CIPHA-BORN 0.9 & ROKSTARR/JINNATI, we both we're still in high school when during these major releases. The buzz we created and the name we developed in the early ninety's was solid. “MERDAH” was dropping hot joint's and rocking show's all over. We performed at “club dances, which was the hottest club in Philly at the time. We rocked with all the hottest groups that we’re tearing the city up at that time major and underground. Some of the groups from my city was -100X, BIG TAB NOW JACK FROST, AYEESHA, BAHAMADIA, 215 ASSASSINS, RAM SQUAD, and the list went on. So when cipha-Born amongst a few of his group members decided to form “APHILLYATION” I knew we would get support all around the board. The music we make is and was ingenious so the Product would sell itself and since we already had a reputation for making good music, I was confident that the people would respond to our sound. It was a master plan. In 1999, “APHILLYATION” was signed to “TOMMYBOY RECORDS” for a single deal. So we released the 12' inch single DRY TEARS/ TO THIS. The single sold 40,000 units worldwide, all of “APHILLYATION” music hit the “BILL BOARD” CHARTS. These singles topped the charts for selling single, topspins in the UK, and most spins on “COLLEGE RADIO”. So yea, we have a huge underground following ask about us. Therefore, at the end of the day this is my passion. Cipha-Born is no stranger to the music industry as a whole. I recently dropped my solo project, a debut mix tape "PHILAHELLFIRE."
