Biography in English

Hello everybody,my name is Lorenzo, I’m 24 and I live in a small town called Cuneo near Turin in Italy. First of all I love listening to music and playing it. I appreciate every style of popular music but my favourite ones are house, techno and hip hop. Other my passions beyond music and Djing are travelling, cooking, movies in general. In my photos there are some images from Spain, Russia and Cuba.

I discovered music when I was fourteen and at first I appreciated house music because it has got an amazing rhythm and sounds very hot. I learnt about other styles when I was a dj at radio Stereo 5, a small FM station of my town. I had a broadcast and I played songs of all types of popular music and so our listeners could hear songs from rock to jazz or rap without and it was always music of good quality, not commercial or done without real interest.

Four years ago I began to create music with electronic instruments such as synths or computer and finally in 2006 I published my first cd produced by myself. My first album, Blended, contains 9 songs and about the music I can say that it’s techno and house music not excessively complicated. It's istrumental music but in 2 songs there are some vocals. There're also 4 long version mixed. Blended album is extremely rare to find, in fact I've made of this work only 500 copies. It was recorded on an old laptop.The best songs which received good marks from some djs and producers were Blended and Funturismo. Sincerely I don't remember why I wrote Blended, simply when I was creating it I wanted a song that gave me some emotions.On the other hand Funturismo was inspired by the masterpiece of Fritz Lang, Metropolis, in particular the scene of futuristic buildings which was really innovative at that time.

Now I've finished my second album, Night Ladies. About it you can listen 5 songs, Ladies In Da House, Dirty Love, Electronique Metropolis, the marvellous remix of Dirty Love by Dj E Dubb and the hot mix by Conan Liquid of Ladies In Da House. Ladies In Da House has been written when I was hearing that girls..ladies prefer house music than tekno. The truth is that everyone has his style and so there are even girls who adore tekno music. I know that on the dancefloor the woman is the queen but for me music has no rules so I don't like to create tracks..songs for someone but for all. Electronique Metropolis was ispired again by Fritz Lang's Metropolis movie which I love and about Dirty Love I can say that it's a simple party track. The Dj E Dubb's remix is a good pure house track with a Detroit/Chicago feeling. For sure it will be played by many djs in the world. Conan Liquid's remix has got everything to be loved by people who listen to house music. It's simple, it has a great bassline and sexy sounds. However, Conan has been part of the famous house music duo Liquid People and currently he is one of the most important djs who is specialized in house music so if you like his productions you will love the remix he has made for me. In my second album there are some special remixes by international producers and deejays. There are 3 remixes in my album: Blended(Andrea Festa Ford Detroit remix), Ladies in Da House(Conan Liquid Ladies Re Recorded remix), Dirty Love(Dj E Dubb Funkadub Rerub remix). All these producers have made a great work and their remixes rock the dancefloors. Night Ladies soon will be available online so stay tuned because soon there will be important news.

As dj my sound is made of techno, house, elektro and hip hop music. At the same time I like to play some jazzy and soul songs. Generally the music I play comes from the underground but in any case I want to be open minded when I play music. Only 1 thing before closing this short presentation. The song you hear on my player are mp3s at 128kbit rate, so I'm sorry if the quality of these mp3s is not the best but I've chosen to put on the player songs with 128kbit rate because probably the page load the songs easier.

Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Lorenzo aka Dj Funball , ho 24 anni e vivo a Cuneo. Prima di tutto mi piace dire che mi piacciono quasi tutti i generi della popular music anche se i miei favoriti in particolare sono la house, la techno e l’hip hop. Oltre alla musica mi piace cucinare, viaggiare e il cinema in generale. Infatti nella mia foto gallery potete trovare alcune foto dei miei viaggi. Ho iniziato ad interessarmi di musica circa all’età di 14 anni e da subito ho apprezzato la house per il suo ritmo e i suoni. Più avanti con il tempo ho imparato ad apprezzare anche altri generi musicali, specialmente quando ho fatto il dj in una radio della mia città, Radio Stereo 5. In questa radio avevo un programma di cadenza settimanale, Radio Coccola, dove a letture di testi presi da vari libri si alternavano i brani musicali, con una filosofia il più possibile open minded. Infatti si passava con disinvoltura dal rock ai cantautori, dal jazz all’ hip hop, senza escludere l’elettronica, il blues, il soul, la world music. Di solito si cercava di mettere brani ricercati, non le solite hit o i pezzi più conosciuti degli artisti. In 80 puntate posso dire di aver messo circa 550 canzoni diverse e almeno 470-80 artisti.

Circa 4 anni fa ho iniziato invece a fare musica sul serio iniziando a lavorare con computer e sintetizzatori e nel 2006 finalmente ho fatto uscire il mio primo cd, Blended, che contiene 9 brani. Il genere è essenzialmente house e techno, con le classiche influenze verso Detroit e certa elettronica tedesca. In prevalenza i brani sono strumentali ma in 2 pezzi ci sono anche dei campioni vocali. Tutto, dall’arrangiamento al mastering finale, per non parlare della copertina, è stato ideato dal sottoscritto, e persino la distribuzione. In totale ne sono state fatte 500 copie ed è stato un disco che è stato suonato persino dalla leggendaria Underground Resistance di Detroit.

E’ stata in generale un’esperienza utile poiché mi ha permesso di comprendere meglio i diversi meccanismi nel concepire un cd totalmente indipendente e che si possono riassumere in questi punti: 1) realizzare i brani, sceglierli e metterli in scaletta e vedere come funzionano. 2) Proteggere i brani con la tutela del copyright iscrivendosi come artista alla Siae e compilazione dei bollettini per la tutela dei propri brani. 3) Ideazione della copertina, delle strategie di distribuzione, pratiche bollini Siae. 4) Realizzazione del mastering finale e delle copie finali(realizzate da apposita azienda) 5) Distribuzione delle copie gratuite a potenziali persone interessate e pubblicità con mezzi “alternativi” come Internet o il passaparola tra amici e conoscenti. In generale ho messo in vendita solo 20 copie a mò di esperimento per vedere se anche un cd sconosciuto e non certo così in vista poteva essere comprato. Le copie alla fine sono state vendute tutte, a un prezzo bassissimo (7 euro), costo che mi sono potuto permettere dato le poche spese per la realizzazione del cd(non ho avuto bisogno di uno studio di registrazione, ne di musicisti da pagare) sia ai bollini Siae che sono gratuiti fino a 50 copie.

Adesso ho terminato mio secondo cd, che sarà diverso dal precedente, sia perché contiene al suo interno alcune collaborazioni importanti con artisti stranieri di alto livello sia perché i brani sono migliori, più maturi e con più potenzialità rispetto al precedente. Di questo nuovo lavoro potete sentire in anteprima 5 brani. Il primo, il brano forse di punta del nuovo album, è Ladies in da house, un brano house dalle sonorità funk, soul, deep con persino dei campioni vocali che ha una forma semplice ma ben strutturata. Il pezzo è stato scritto in risposta al fatto che le ragazze preferiscono la musica house rispetto a quella elettronica e..o techno. In generale penso valida questa teoria ma ci sono delle eccezioni, basti pensare a dj come la tailandese Nakadia. Altri brani inclusi in Night Ladies che potete sentire sono Dirty Love, un classico pezzo house da party,Electronique Metropolis, pure elettronica ispirata dal capolavoro del cinema muto Metropolis di Fritz Lang e il remix di Dirty Love ad opera di Dj E Dubb, dj di Detroit, patria della musica techno di alto livello, che ha fatto un remix in chiave house dub di sicuro impatto su ogni pista. L'ultimo brano è il remix fatto da Conan Liquid per Ladies In Da House. Conan è stato parte del famoso duo di dj house Liquid People ed è uno dei producer più quotati al mondo per cui questo brano ha tutte le caratteristiche per essere una vera house hit. Dall’album vecchio invece potete sentire 1 brano, Blended. Le sonorità del brano sono influenzate molto dalle opere di alcuni produttori di Detroit,infatti esso è stato suonato da diversi dj in Detroit come UR e altri ancora. Su Blended onestamente non saprei dire perché l’ho scritta, forse volevo creare un brano dalle forti tinte emozionali, un poco melanconiche.

Come dj il mio sound è eclettico, non amo chi si fissa su un solo genere o sottogenere quando si seleziona musica. Al contrario adoro abbattere i confini, presunti più che reali, tra vari stili. Ammetto che ho una predilezione per la musica house, in tutti i suoi stili dalla progressive alla vocale e per la musica techno purchè non troppo potente(entro i 140-145 bpm). Nei miei set inoltre non mancano dei brani hip hop, specie della vecchia scuola come Public Enemy, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Ice Cube, dell’elettronica-ambient e qualche brano jazz. In genere suono brani ricercati, non amo mettere le hit solo perché lo chiedono le ragazze per ballare, un brano se lo suono come dj è perché mi piace e non perché qualcuno mi costringe a suonarlo! In generale mi piace essere libero di suonare quello che preferisco per cui anche nei miei mix che realizzo su Podomatic.com potete trovare delle sorprese.

From Detroit techno more sperimental to vocal house as Masters at Work, crossing alternative hip hop(Five Deez, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul) and jazz funk like Herbie Hancock or Miles Davis. Really all the music made with quality and passion is interesting for me. If I must indicate one group or label that I like especially I would say Underground Resistance. dalla techno Detroit più sperimentale alla house vocale stile Masters at Work, passando per hip hop alternativo(Five Deez, Jungle Brothers) e jazz..funk alla Herbie Hancok o Miles Davis.
