  • Bio

Noise and experimental musick have gone the way of power electronics at best, and pseudo-intellectual drivel at worst. Whatever happened to the cultural revolutionary potential of sound and word, performance and ritual, art and consciousness expanding media? The People's Army is here to lead the fight against mainstream-consumerist culture to bring back the quest for personal freedom in art with cyber-age, neo-Bacchanalian noise and performance art scare tactics (or at least to have a good time yelling at people while bombarding them with a blitzkrieg of sonic explosives). Coming soon to a basement, warehouse, back room, bridge, alley, or arts festival near you. Do what you will, The People's Army will protect you. ....The People's Army will never release a CD, record, cassette, 3", floppy disc, DVD, VHS, or sell .mp3s online (though you may find bootleg copies of live shows in any of these formats floating around out there, that's up to other people, and we may offer such things for free so you can get a taste). We prefer to fight our battles face to face. If you weren't there live and in person, then you weren't fighting with us. By the same token, we also do not actively book shows. We either perform spontaneously at a location that is not announced (and is probably not a standard 'music venue'), or we are put on the roster for some event by someone else. If you want to have us play your event or venue, ask us, we will not ask you. We also do not accept money for performances, though barter goods like beer, food, survival/military gear, and art or recorded media from other artists are accepted. We simply try to stay as far away from the 'business' side of music as we can. How can we subvert consumerist consciousness by participating in it? .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ...... ..............

  • Sounds Like

If G.G. Allin had a brain, if Genesis P. Orridge had balls, if Throbbing Gristle had kept the performance art element of Coum Transmissions, if SPK hadn't gone on to do synth pop, if Coil had been less gay but the singer still grew a beard later in life, if Costes were bigger and hairier and more intimidating i.e. less French, if William Bennett of Whitehouse were less whiny and more growly, if Haus Arafna were a bit more random sounding, if Merzbow had a point, if Realicide weren't as technoish, if Crust Punk were less punk and more noisy but with a similar attitude, if power noise were more than just a way to feel like a bad ass but still get to shake your booty like a raver at the club, if industrial musick hadn't become equated with EBM, if William S. Burroughs had become President of the U.S., if Rush Limbaugh got torn to bits in a meat grinder, if Oprah Winfrey weren't the richest and whitest person on the planet, if YOU got off your ass to make the world a better place by making it a worse place and then YOU joined The People's Army.
