  • Bio

HRIM started in the summer of 2004 at the Ukrainian American Youth Organization Camp in Ellenville, NY. Several individuals brought instruments to camp and a small band was formed. Some of the people who played instruments in this early HRIM group were Yuri Symczyk, Stefan Priatka, Chris Gojdycz, and Adam Gojdycz. The current HRIM members that were in this camp group included Peter Drobenko, Roman Kozicky, and Roman Palylyk. After learning a couple of songs during camp and performing for several events during the 3 weeks they spent in Ellenville, the group that consisted of 6 or 7 members went their separate ways. Peter Drobenko, Roman Kozicky, and Roman Palylyk wanted to continue playing music together and figured that they would try to take HRIM to the next level and turn it into a true zabava band. They brought on Peter's brother Johnny Drobenko to play drums, while Roman Palylyk switched over to Bass Guitar and began to sing. Peter Drobenko sang as well and played accordion, while Roman Kozicky was HRIM's guitarist. Chris Gojdycz accompanied the boys on saxophone from time to time. Practices were held during the fall of 2004 through the winter, until HRIM's first gig at a talent show held at the CYM building in Yonkers, NY. This gig went really well for HRIM and they even got some help from Slawko Palylyk on accordion, keyboard, and vocals. HRIM continued to practice almost every weekend, but the boys realized that they needed some help vocally. Roman Palylyk and Peter Drobenko had a very close friend named Peter Kolinsky who had never sung before, but for some strange reason, they believed he could. He started attending practices and the vocals drastically improved. The group seemed to finally have that last piece it needed and started to play more and more gigs. HRIM is now five years old and is doing better than ever, playing weddings, debutant balls, malankas, and zabavas from all over the east coast of the United States to Chicago and even up into Canada. The group is in the production stage of recording their first album as well. They have also recently welcomed a new member, Will Wyatt on guitar. The future is bright for this young Ukrainian band. Look out for HRIM playing at a zabava near you!
