    RAPPER PROMOTES MARRIAGE EQUALITY
New single decries Proposition 8, calls ban supporters “hypnotized”
Proceeds to be shared with the Courage Campaign

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA -- MAY 26, 2009 -- Rapper Julie Fucking Potter
(JFP) has released a new single entitled Never Disappear, currently
available online for download at www.digstation.com/neverdisappear.
Accompanied on the track by her partner, violinist Caroline Dream
(CNOTE), Potter eloquently represents the feelings of many same-sex
couples in the U.S. who still do not enjoy the freedom to marry, while
encouraging them with the strident reminder, “We’ve got hope.”  JFP
and CNOTE are donating half the proceeds from sales of the song to the
Courage Campaign, a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing
communities in the pursuit of equal rights for everyone.  Never
Disappear is available for preview at www.myspace.com/JFPlive.

“I had to do this song.  I had to say something.  I had to speak about my life.
This answers the question, what can I do to change things, because for
99 cents a download, anyone, anywhere, can chip in and contribute. We
need exposure, we need to educate people, we need to be visible and
the Courage Campaign is leading the way!” Potter says.

Why is marriage equality important?  Same sex couples who live
together, pay bills together, depend on each other, plan their lives
together -- in short, live like married couples -- want the same
options and protections that are afforded a man and a woman when they
decide to commit their lives to each other.

Even more than that, every time a state includes same-sex couples in
the legal definition of marriage, American society gets closer to a
much-needed, long-awaited universal acceptance of the fact that love
is love, no matter who shares the connection.

Finally, the passage of Proposition 8 in California is a very
dangerous precedent for using a majority vote to limit the
opportunities and protections of a minority population.  Marriage is
an issue of personal significance, which poses no threat to anyone’s
    safety or well-being.

While several straight allies in the entertainment industry have
voiced their support for marriage equality, JFP is the first openly
gay rap artist to release a song specifically to provide financial
support to an organization working to change outdated attitudes
towards same-sex couples.  Among gay rap artists, JFP is also the only
one to collaborate onstage and in the studio with a life partner.
CNOTE, an accomplished instrumentalist and composer, wrote and
performed the violin material in Never Disappear.  She also appears on
JFP’s album, EXODUS, available on Itunes, CDBaby, and AmazonMP3.  JFP
and CNOTE met 5 years ago in San Francisco when they were both
attending Metropolitan Community Church; they were married in an MCC
ceremony in 2006 by then-MCC Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. G. Penny Nixon.
Now Julie and Caroline eagerly await the day they and thousands of
others can get their marriage license in the state of California.

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    By: Julie Potter

    Never Disappear

    It’s Clear

    We’re Queer

    We’re Here

And we will not be dictated by your fear

And lack of understanding for the love we have

It’s the same that you feel between a women and man

No Doubt why you act this way

Hypnotized by the “word” has led you astray

To make you think it’s ok

To treat us different cuz we’re gay

Naaw, I don’t think Jesus did walk that way

So we separate Church & State

So it doesn’t have to be a debate

Cuz it doesn’t matter if your religion can relate

    Love is Love

    Yet you legislate hate

But we will invalidate Prop 8

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    Never Disappear

    Its Clear

    We’re Queer

    We’re Here

And we have shed too many tears

    For years of oppression

When will we learn this lesson

That the difference is each other is simply a blessen’

But the Majority stripped the Minority’s rights

Today it’s us, but tomorrow night

It’s you, and your crew, and the things that you do

Cuz if you let them judge us, they’re going to judge you too

    Sounds like voodoo

Next they’ll dictate what you do

    They push hate to perpetrate

    So we can’t wait

    To change the fate

    Like Harvey Milk the Great

For the next generation marching through the gate

And love is on our side

    And history’s on our side

So no matter what you say, we will never run and hide

    Faces full of pride

    Eyes open wide

Marching in step to the other side

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    Never Disappear

    NO we’ll Never go away

Separate is NOT equal no matter what you say

    Oh Yes we can

    And Yes we did

And yes we are going to do it again

We will change what you have wronged

    We will stay standing strong

For the angels to sing as we dance along

Great miracles happen where love does dwell

So we’ll keep fighting you can bet, sure as hell

This isn’t a choice, so we give voice

And follow the WORD of those you haven’t heard

The mothers & daughters, sons & fathers

Together as a family like they outta

BE, so let us be in this land of the free

You can’t pick & choose who’s a part of society

    And to the 18,000 who

    Already married their true

Soon my love and I will be joining you

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    NEVER DISAPPEAR

    Never Disappear

    Still Clear

    Still Queer

    Still Here

And we are not intimated by your fear

And lack of understand for the love we have

It’s the same that you share between a women and a man

    We’re all created equal

And we don’t need a squeal

    That continues oppression

Of a another group of people

Please, we are all the same

And a rose Does smell as sweet with a different name

    This isn’t a game – for victory

It’s real lives, real people, real families

And this persecution is a slippery slope

But we’ll Never Disappear cuz we’ve got HOPE!

    Yes we’ve got hope.

  • Marriage Equality

    Current mood:determined

Like every other little girl I was bombarded as a child with the imagery of marriage, a man in his black suit and a woman in her white dress walking down the isle to paradise. The woman has some babies, the man gets a job, and they all settle down in their little house and live happily every after, right?  Well, these images never sat well with me, because I couldn’t see myself in that role, but the desire to commit myself to another, bonded by our love, remained real.  Yes, true love, that is what I wanted and that is what I’ve found, someone who adores me, respects me, supports me, and loves me unconditionally. Because I have found this true love in the form of a woman, some say it can’t be so, but my feelings are undeniable and the chemistry is real. Romantic love is not limited to a man and a woman, rather it is limitless; love is beyond definition, and comprehension, so when two consenting beings want to love each other it should be celebrated and lifted up, not destroyed and taken apart.

One brisk Sunday evening in San Francisco I walked into MCC, a queer house of spirituality for all people in the Castro, and saw standing there in the choir a stunning creature, grinning from ear to ear, and I was stuck down by her beauty. After six months of courting I finally got my first date, and the rest is herstory! Caroline and I have been together for five years now, and we will be celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary on 07/08/09.

Currently in California, my home state, love is under attack with the passage of Prop 8, a hate bill designed to deny consenting individuals the right to commitment to one another, effectively stripping them of countless rights and privileges only afforded to a certain segment of the population. Now, we wait for the California Supreme Court to decide whether the people can vote on rights that do not affect them. If we had let the South vote on slavery I wonder how that would have turned out.

As a native Californian, a Woman and an Artist I stand up boldly against this hatred and ignorance. I have found my true love, and I will get married to her in California. Our love, our truths, and our commitment to equality will never disappear.  If you would like to stand up with us, and support marriage equality, please download our new song entitled Never Disappear for 99 cents at www.digstation.com/neverdisappear  50 cents of every purchase goes to the www.CourageCampaign.org a nonprofit, grassroots organization that is striving for our equality. You can listen to the song first at www.myspace.com/jfplive and decide if you also want your voice to be heard, and Never Disappear. We must stand up together, unite, and boldly speak our truths.

This is a great way for everyone, in every state, in every nation, everywhere who supports Marriage Equality to chip in and make a difference. The opposition has no shortage of money, so we must be creative and insistent with our efforts. At 99 cents truly everyone can be a part of the solution. Please pass this on to your friends, family, co-workers, pharmacist, mail person, everyone! We must unite and show that we will Never Disappear!!!

    With Love & Determination,

    Julie Fucking Potter
