  • Bio

A long time ago, a team of young songwriters at the Brill Building went out for dinner and a few drinks before going back to an evening production session with an emerging singer. Their taxicab was hit by a delivery truck, on the way back. The production group waited until late evening before going home and didn't find out what had happened to the songwriters until the next day. The collective spirit of that writing team restlessly walked the earth like a Jacob Marley, for 40 years, because there was just something not right about the loss of all their potential songs. Finally, at a time when the artistry and exuberance of the Brill mentality was at its lowest ebb in nearly every kind of new music, that collective spirit found a home in a band of musicians who resonated on the same level of cosmic vibrations. This could be the background story of Lost Colt ... or maybe not ... http://rasputins.ca/articles/reviews/ You'll also find videos on Youtube at: http://il.youtube.com/user/LostColtmusic

  • Influences

Influenced by the renaissance in country music, both commercial and alternative, and with three songwriters in the band, alt-country rockers Lost Colt evoke Roy Orbison, the Cars, Blue Rodeo and Canada's legendary Blue Shadows. Rick Fry writes clever, pop-inflected country, rock and folk songs influenced by Liz Phair, Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell and Brill Building pop. He's currently a fan of Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Carling Abbeygate, Ladies of the Canyon, Good Lovelies and Ottawa's Ball and Chain... Dan Jetté is a versatile and prodigious writer of melodic and infectious songs. He grew up listening to the Beatles, early rock and roll (Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison), Bob Dylan, Genesis, the Rolling Stones (old and new), Metallica; and more recently Green Day, Eminem, the Vines and Elbow... Conrad ('Rad) White started drumming on cardboard boxes after seeing Ringo Starr on the Ed Sullivan Show, then switched to drums thanks to his grandad's generosity. Musical heroes are the late Jeff Porcaro (of TOTO), Vinnie Colaiuta (with Frank Zappa, Sting, Jeff Beck, and Herbie Hancock), and Bobby Colomby (Blood Sweat & Tears)... Bruce Wozny ("woz") cut his chops in West Coast folk and country bands, releasing two original albums prior to joining Lost Colt. He loves classic country, singer-songwriter folk (old and new), bluegrass, old timey, tin pan alley, admires Hank Williams, Harlan Howard, Terry Gilkyson, John Prine, Gillian Welch and Tom Waits and likes Ottawa bands the Flaps, the Empiricals, and Manotick whippersnappers Hollerado.
