Gifted 24-year-old songsmith Marques Toliver is a heartstring-plucking amalgam of music-school-trained violin shred, the Williamsburg avant-boho vibe of pals like Grizzly Bear and TV On The Radio, and a deep-seated love of contemporary R&B--though, as he tells i-D, "If I had to describe my music I would say it is like Paris in spring." He came up in Brooklyn working at vintage stores and busking in front of the Bedford Cheese Shop, often taking in about $25 an hour via his formidable string-sawing skills. But after a star-making co-sign from chart-topping British sensation Adele, he's increasingly spends more of his days overseas. Though his MySpace still identifies him as "Brooklyn" and his official website allows for the more general "London/New York," Toliver makes no bones about the fact that he's being seen less and less around the Verb Café. TODAY'S THOUGHT IS ABOUT A YEAR OF TIME ...
As we look into 2012 we look at A BLOCK OF TIME.
We see 12 months,
52 weeks,
365 days,
8,760 hours,
525,600 minutes,
31,536,000 seconds.
And all is a gift from God. We have DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE IT, EARN IT, or PURCHASE IT. Like the air we breathe, TIME comes to us as a part of life.
The GIFT OF TIME is not ours alone. It is given EQUALLY to each person. Rich and poor, educated and ignorant, strong and weak—every man, woman and child has the same 24 hours every day.
Another important thing about time is that you CANNOT STOP IT. There is no way to SLOW IT DOWN, TURN IT OFF, or ADJUST IT. TIME MARCHES ON. And you cannot bring back time. Once it is GONE, it is GONE.
The NEW YEAR IS FULL OF TIME. As the seconds tick away, will you be tossing time out the window, or will you MAKE EVERY MINUTE COUNT?
