About me:
Welcome to "On the Spectrum," a comic strip wherein I share my family's humorous and sometimes frustrating experiences raising our two wonderful boys who have Autism.Right up front, I don't want ANYONE to get the idea that Autsim is something I take lightly. Equally important is that none of this is meant to show any disrepect towards children with Autism, or their families. In case there are any doubts about my motivation in (essentially) using disabled (if that's even the right word) children as a source of humor, let me be absolutley clear that it is with the utmost affection for my own children and autistic children everywhere that I share these stories.
That being said, there are three themes at work here; three messeges that I wish to convey:
1) That it is important, when faced with such an overwhelming, lifelong, challenge, to be able to step back from time to time and just LAUGH. If you never laugh at your life, it WILL make you crazy.
2) YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Some of these stories are bound to sound familiar to you. I write these stories because the situations they depict made me laugh, and I believe that other parents who share my family's situation will laugh as well - because they will relate. If I'm laughing, and you're laughing, you can bet that others are laughing as well and that's because we're all in the same boat. We ALL share these experiences.
3) Finally since, at first glance to the casual reader, much of the strip will appear to be just another "parents and kids" or "family life" comic, I hope to convey the message that while these kids face enormous challenges, they are first and foremost KIDS. They have the same desire to be a kid that every other kid has - even if they do not often express it in the same way.
With that in mind, I hope you get some encouragement, or at least a smile or two out of the stories that I share.
Thanks, ~Scott

We are excited to let all of you know that we have officially launched the AWN's Forum and Website. A million thanks to our Beta Test Group as we could not have worked out the bugs & kinks without your participation over at the site early on.
Please head over and join us at the Autism Women's Network
Just a couple of FYI's before you register:
1.) AWN's official color theme is red; however, our Web Developer, Lori Berkowitz has given you additional theme colors to choose from in case the red causes you sensory issues. You will have a choice to switch to a blue or green theme at any time.
2.) Please do not hesitate to let us know if you come across any kinks while you are over at the site as we are new, and in the beginning we expect this could happen. Hopefully the beta testing has taken care of the bugs by now. *fingers crossed*
3.) Please take a moment to introduce yourself and post a comment over at the Forum. There are hundreds of posts and discussions going on over there which were started by our Beta Group, and we are looking forward to having you join in the conversations!
Thanks for the add
