Bio
"It is completely mindboggling to say the least as to how such an exceptional band and its super talented members have remained out of the spotlight since they formed in 2006" Amy Stirling – The Scotsman. .. .. .. Not wanting to be another cookie cutter, angsty, indie singer/songwriter, Phoenix Quigley started out in Scotland's capital in 2002 as a solo act. His aim was to bring back acoustic, melodic and thoughtful pop music, a genre forgotten by a generation more concerned with monsters coming over hills. Having proven himself on the Edinburgh acoustic circuit, and gaining the respect of his peers and fans alike, in 2006 Phoenix Q went on to recruit four talented musicians; Ryan Gibson, Ryan McKenna, Ewan Simpson and Calum Campbell. Their aim was to take their sound to a larger audience. This sound comes from a diverse mix of influences, from rock bands like the Foo Fighters - with Dave Grohl's amazing lyrics - to great pop bands like Scissor Sisters. .. .. .. In October 2006 the band played their first significant gig at the Oxfam music festival which took place in Edinburgh's Bongo Club. Their set at this momentous gig was broadcast over one of the city's most listened-to independent radio stations: Leith FM. Since then, Phoenix Q have gone from strength to strength, not only playing throughout Scotland in established, renowned venues - but constantly packing them out. Most notable of these are; the award winning Jazz Bar, The Ark, and Edinburgh's most famous underground venue: The Bongo Club, which has seen acts such as Moby regularly bring the house down. In addition to sell-out gigs, Phoenix Q have played live acoustic sets to critical acclaim on national radio stations, such as BBC Radio. .. .. .. Following on from their amazing success on the independent circuit, in 2008 the band went on to play their most notable gigs. Firstly as the supporting act for the international chart-topping band Wheatus, on their most recent UK tour. Secondly, the band played at the acclaimed music event 'The Mill' held at one of Edinburgh's most historic venues: The Caves. The gig at The Caves earned Phoenix Q a glowing review from Amy Stirling, from The Scotsman. In May 2009, the band was stripped back to the basics as Phoenix set off for the bright lights of London. Armed with his guitar, he has already started to make himself known, playing gigs around the Big Smoke.......... .. If you want to know more about Phoenix Q then please contact us, come to our gigs or listen to your radio; because we can be heard there every now and then, when we infiltrate some poor unsuspecting radio station and take over! .. Influences
We're a pretty varied band when it comes to our musical influences, Phoenix is a funk/soul (Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Jamiroquai) kinda guy, Cesar LOVE's the funk, Andy is very much from a classical background but has a huge passion for all genre's (can often be found busting some shapes to some hard elctro at the weekend) and Sandra has a passion for acoustic but man she can rock out to some hard core bands as well!! .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .................... -
Sounds Like
We sound a bit like if KT Tunstall was a man and she teamed up with Maroon 5 and Seal we would be the result LOL. But I also think there's a feeling of Fleetwood Mac about our stuff especially if you've heard their album The Dance, its a Live album and its absolutely amazing, check out the song Big Love on it thats the best song.
