So Pivo have started doing Free Entry gigs on a Friday, and it got me to thinking about having a resident/house band in, which got me to thinking about how we choose a house band, which got me thinking that there may never have been a battle of the house bands so why don't we have one.
So what's the prize?
The prize is a 3 month contract guaranteeing a Friday night slot once a month (probably around 45 mins, will still have 2 other acts) which will pay £150! So you'll definitely make £450 out of it, plus will probably be the first band we come to if someone can't make their date for whatever reason. We're only looking for 3 bands to win this out of 12 competitors, so you'll have a one in four chance of winning.
So what's the catch?. Not a catch really, we'll have 4 gigs, each will be a FINAL, so if you win on the night you've got the job. Nae shite to deal with of heats etc, just a simple turn up do a job and win!
Each final will take place on a sunday in june/july, with the contracts kicking in in July, here are the dates for the finals, followed by the dates you could play in July. If it all looks good to you and you fancy participating, then tell me which finals you could play and i'll slot you in
Finals - Sunday 6th, 13th and 27th June
July dates - Friday 16th, 23rd and 30th,
These gigs will involve selling tickets, i'd suggest if you think you couldn't get around 20 folk out on a sunday you don't ask to be involved, as if you can't sell at least that you'll have no chance of getting the contract. I need to make some money from the finals to generate the capital to offer the contrats, I may as well be honest as that's the case, but I think it's a novel way of structuring something, and we're putting the money out to a band that's willing to do a little hard work, so I think that's in keeping with our venues ethos. Tickets will be £5, of which you'll get £2 for every one you sell, which gives you the option of selling for £3 should you wish, and you think it would get more folk in.

Monday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th or 31st - doing really strong 3 band lineups, trying to keep genre similar where possible, getting good crowds, had over 80 in Monday past. Get in touch if you're doing something interesting/new and we can get behind you to promote a good night! Tuesday 4th, 11th and 18th May - Up for anything, get in touch and we'll take it from there.
Wednesday 19th May - Revelations indie/rock/pop night.

sunday after sunday metal scared more folk away than it attracted. If
you're a solo acoustic performer, folk band, country orientated, do
covers, anything chilled and good for a broad spectrum audience, then

Tuesday 30th March - 1 slot left in heats for our record label competition, with a final in april with the chance to sign to www.metropolicana.com and have a vinyl single released! Get in touch if you fancy a bit of this.
