Bio
Rolling Stone Magazine - 4 STARS "A fine balance between beautiful instrumentation and raucous theatrics." Melbourne Septet The Bon Scotts play a unique brand of folk-pop full of sarcastic rebellions, sweet melodies, arresting percussion, resonant catch-cries and sing-along choruses. Theirs is an infectious blend of playful cynicism and youthful fancy, laced with irony and hype, unconventional hooks and a distinct, eclectic sound that has won over audiences nationwide. From their passionate recordings to their intense live show, The Bon Scotts demonstrate they are superb songwriters, musicians and performers. Amongst this collection of multi-instrumentalists, you'll find a charismatic union of found sounds and something new can be heard with every listen. Rickety rhythms, acoustic pounding and bellowing choruses are pulled into line by front man Robert Zimmerman's endearing satirical voice, examining the hypocrisy of popular culture, what it means to be disillusioned with society and when love can't conquer all. 2011 saw the band awarded the Grant for New Work (in music) by The Australia Council for the Arts and the Arts Victoria Grant for Presentation and Promotion. In addition, two Australian companies endorsed them: Bees Neez Microphones (to help record their huge array of sounds) and Dee Jay Drums (for their driving, layered percussion). From these The Bon Scotts were able to write, record and tour their sophomore album WE WILL ALL DIE AT THE HANDS OF C.G.I. (affectionately known as WWADATHOCGI). After recording intense sessions banging around in the back shed, the band walked out with a collection of songs. To add the finishing touches to the sound, friends (including Tash Parker, The Tiger & Me, Kel Day and The Stillsons) were invited to sing backing vocals and shout a lot. Further more, Tony Dupé (Holly Throsby, Grand Salvo) was brought on board to manage the final mix of the album. Dupé had the band blasting the album full tilt in churches at 3am to record natural reverbs and experimenting with tape delays for a magic touch to WWADATHOCGI, which has garnered nothing but critical acclaim. "The band have created a unique and impressive release." (Inpress Magazine) "It all adds up to a disarming warmth, the album's big beating heart truly rewarding" (Faster Louder) We Will All Die at the Hands of C.G.I. - out now! thebonscotts.bandcamp.com -
